The Pan Hu (Pan Pot) (潘壶)Yixing teapot traces its origins to the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. It evolved from a custom-made Zisha clay teapot commissioned by Pan Shicheng, a native of Panyu, Guangdong Province, in Yixing. This distinctive teapot shape soon gained widespread recognition as the "Pan Hu" (Pan Pot) among the public.

Pan Shicheng’s family wielded significant social influence and enjoyed far-reaching fame during that era. As such, the Pan Hu teapot became a popular choice for gift-giving, carrying the auspicious wish that the recipient would attain the same prosperity and nobility as the Pan family.
